We Tried the TikTok-Viral Frontal Queen Edge Control—Here Are Our Thoughts

Frontal Queen Baby Hair Gel Review

Byrdie

There are so many edge controls on the market, but there are a few factors that can make one stand out from the rest. To be specific: It should be strong enough to keep your baby hair slicked back all day, not leave behind white residue or stickiness, and be made with moisturizing ingredients.

Frontal Queen's Baby Hair Control proudly claims to nail all of the points above. Over the last few months, the brand's edge control has caused immense commotion in the beauty space, generating tons of positive reviews on TikTok. So, naturally, Team Byrdie's interest was piqued, and we decided to see if the product truly lived up to the hype. Ahead, learn more about the buzzy edge control gel and read our honest reviews.

The Product

The Frontal Queen has become known for its wigs, hair bundles, and haircare products. The Baby Hair Control is its most viral launch to date, and it has resonated with consumers for a few reasons. Most importantly, it was formulated with curly and coily hair in mind, with the brand specifically showcasing online that it works well with 4c hair. Additionally, the edge control is formulated to deliver a 48-hour hold (yes, you read that right) without flaking, crusting, or making your hair feel stiff. It's able to do this thanks to a host of nourishing ingredients like vitamin E, castor oil, and argan oil.

"Ever since I discovered the magical powers of edge control, I’ve never strayed away. I know which brands work for my hair and the ones that don’t, which leaves me a little leary when it comes to trying new brands. I’ve seen Frontal Queen Edge Control all over my FYP, so I just knew I had to try it for myself. I’m happy to report that the hype is real. I pushed my go-to edge control to the side a week ago and haven’t looked back. Not only does it lay my edges, but it also works great for slick back styles. 10/10 from me—no notes."

"Before anyone clowns me, let it be known: I basically never lay my edges. BUT! This gel helped me get the closest I've ever come to having presentable baby hairs. It's easy to work with, smells great, and, most importantly, really stays put: I didn't even use a scarf to keep them down after I initially laid my edges, and they still managed to freeze right in place. I have very coily hair, and most gels can't get me from my house to my subway station. In the picture above, I had undergone a host of travel adventures, and my edges were still pretty swoopy, all things considered. This has definitely become my go-to on the odd occasions I actually lay my baby hairs."

"Whenever I wear a bun, I use edge control to slick back my hair. And if I'm feeling extra fancy, I'll sometimes create swoops along my hairline. I found the Baby Hair Control works best on dry hair, and you only need a little product. Once it's applied, it grips the hair nicely, creating a sleek and shiny look. With other edge controls I've used, the longevity of the hold has disappointed me. Many of them don't hold up in humidity or sweaty situations. With the Baby Hair Control, the 48-hour hold is no joke (and I love that). At the end of the day, my hair was still flyaway-free and laid down. But rest assured, even though it delivers a strong hold, it's easy to wash the gel out with a bit of warm water. Overall, I don't see myself deviating from this being my go-to edge control. The formula is top tier."

"I was super excited to try this launch because of how popular it is on TikTok. While the formula is primarily meant to be used as an edge control, I also used it to slick down my hair as well. The hold of the gel is strong when your hair is completely dry. Unfortunately, a lot of my hair styling involves wet or partially wet hair, and the hold isn't nearly as strong when wet. In terms of styling my baby hair, I felt like this product did make a difference. My baby hairs were more grippable, and I even felt compelled to do styles with them that I'd never been able to achieve before."
